What are the top bathroom design trends for 2019?

Whether you’re looking to add a splash of hotel-chic to your home, or looking for a way to organise and declutter your busy family bathroom, you’ve not no shortage of choice when it comes to ways to style your bathroom. Now is a great time to start thinking about the ways you can improve one of the most important rooms in your home, and here at NPM Bathrooms, our designers have all sorts of fantastic design ideas to get you started. What’s more, you can draw some helpful inspiration from some of 2019’s biggest bathroom trends…

Greater control with smart bathrooms

With technology being such a large part of modern lifestyles, it should come as no surprise that smart bathrooms are set to be big in 2019. For example, showers can be adjusted to each family member’s preferred water temperature, and mood lighting can be turned on and off on-demand. These sorts of little changes can give you greater control over the feel and atmosphere of your bathroom, and even change it depending on what you’re using the room for. The lighting you use for a quick shower in the morning, for example, might well be different to the sort of lighting you’d use for a relaxing bath in the evening. The world is your oyster!

New designs with wall treatments

Neutral and white matte painted walls have seen a lot of popularity in recent years, but this year we can expect to see many homeowners opting for wall treatments when designing their bathrooms. Practical tiles can be found in most bathrooms nowadays, and now in 2019 we can expect to see a blend of practical and artsy as homeowners look for ways to add more ‘drama’ and atmosphere to their spaces. Traditional bathroom paint will also evolve, as full-gloss enamels and shimmery colours become the favourite choice over previously popular whites and creams.

Rustic furniture and real greenery

The ‘shabby chic’ design has been steadily increasing in popularity throughout the 2010s, and we expect to see a continuation on that theme as we move into 2019. Expect to see many more rustic design options for bathrooms including washstands, basins, and cupboards. Again, the larger and more dramatic here, the better!

What’s more, 2019 is all about unique aesthetics, and one of the trends we’re seeing more and more of our customers opting for is adding greenery to the bathroom, often in the form of potted plants and small trees. This works especially well with light colour schemes, many of which focus on bright whites and glossy furniture. One thing to keep in mind here is that you’ll need to purchase plants and greenery that thrive in a hot and humid environment. While artificial plants are an option, real greenery is always the best choice if you want a truly luxurious feel!

Evolving metallic finishes

Chrome has long been popular in bathrooms, but today’s homeowners are all about the metallics, and we’ll be seeing plenty of designs incorporating this trend as the year continues. If it’s something that appeals to you, you might want to consider upgrading the taps on your washbasin, or adding a beautiful brass mirrors to one of your walls. If you’d like, you can even complement it with fully metallic furniture options!

You can choose to evolve your own ideas from 2019’s bathroom trends, or ignore them completely and go with your own! Here at NPM Bathrooms, whatever you choose, our expert designers are here to help.
