refresh the style of your bathroom

Should you build a walk-in shower in your small bathroom?

Before beginning a renovation project on a small bathroom in your home, you’ll want to explore all your options. Toilets and sinks come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and typically those features rarely change in bathroom design. Showers, tubs, and tub/shower solutions are often the features that can most dramatically change the look and feel of the bathroom.

You may find several benefits to having a walk-in shower, particularly if you have a small bathroom!

Increased space

One of the key benefits of walk-in showers are obvious: they take up less room. That means they’re perfect for giving yourself a bit more space. In fact, when compared to traditional shower units, walk-in showers can be a perfect solution to utilise awkward spaces. You might even be surprised at how much floor space you can reclaim by opting for a walk-in shower.

When you combine the addition of physical space with a clear divider, it can make the room feel significantly larger! Another benefit of a walk-in shower is the fact it doesn’t have doors or shower curtains that can make a space feel smaller.

Easy to clean

Like with many minimalist and spa-like bathrooms, another great reason to have a walk-in shower fitted is that it’s easy to clean.

Traditional shower units may have difficult to reach corners or areas completely blocked by accordion-style shower doors.

Walk-in showers do not have this problem and are easier to clean largely because there’s simply more room to manoeuvre. If you want to simplify the amount of cleaning needed in your bathroom we simply can’t recommend a walk-in shower enough!

Durability

There’s also something to be said for the increased amount of durability you’ll have with a walk-in shower. These showers use existing walls and have a single piece of glass (or wall) as a separator to keep the water contained. In large bathrooms, we’ve built several different types of these showers some that use walls on three sides to separate between zones.

Traditional shower units can break, crack, or leak around all of the seals, creating a large mess if something goes wrong. However, when building a walk-in shower, you simply need to make sure the tiles slope down to the drainage to prevent any pooling or leakage.

You can rest easy knowing there’s no extra parts or seals that could fail once you’ve got a walk-in shower!

A walk-in shower is a great solution to make your bathroom look and feel bigger. And if you need it, there’s plenty more modern design inspiration to explore right here in our showroom at NPM Bathrooms, or you can browse some of our case studies on our site.
