How to make the most of the natural light in your bathroom this spring

Finally, the sun has got its hat on. It’s time for ice cream at the beach, sunbathing in the garden after work, and long, light days. So, why not make the most of all that radiant natural light and use it to add a brightness boost to your designer bathroom?

Too much artificial light can have a dulling effect on your bathroom, and can often make it feel smaller and less comfortable. A boost of natural light can absolutely transform your regular wash-room into something worthy of even the most pristine Instagram bathrooms, while also bringing an overwhelming sense of fresh positivity to the space. Ultimately, humans are daylight creatures, which is why we find natural light so happy and energising. Here’s how to get some more into your own bathroom!

Total white out

It’s well established that white reflects light, and this incredibly versatile neutral tone can immediately make a room look more spacious by serving as an effective reflector of natural light. And because white works as a blank canvas from which you can create the design of your bathroom, it provides you with ample opportunity to play around with the look of the room as much as you want. Too sterile for you? No problem! If you’d prefer a pop of colour, it’s worth thinking about adding some cheerful flowers or a bright floor mat to bring some extra character to your beautiful designer bathroom.

Show off your shower

The shower can often be the epicentre of any luxury wet room or bathroom. So how you choose to style it can have a huge impact on the overall look and feel of your space. A dark, chunky shower enclosure can have the tendency to work as a black hole of light, absorbing everything it comes into contact with and creating a cramped atmosphere. If that’s not to your taste (and we understand if not!) Then we’d advise opting for a more open, airy design that creates an enticing, minimalist shower room. That way, your shower doors wont obstruct any natural light coming in through your window.

Reflection perfection

Quite simply, mirrors are a great way of utilising the natural light that pours in through your windows at this time of year. A strategically placed mirror can make a world of difference – for example, by placing a window on the wall that sits opposite your bathroom window, the natural light that streams in will reflect off the window and effectively light your bathroom. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not consider a functional storage cabinet with added LED illuminated mirrors? Mirrors are a fantastic way of brightening up your bathroom, while drastically giving off the impression of extra space. We’d highly recommend them!

Complementary colours

Colour has a monumental influence on the impact of natural light on your bathroom. A poorly maintained wall design with peeling, flaky paint will increase the shadows in your bathroom, so it’s important to keep your walls updated with a fresh lick of paint every once in a while! As we’ve touched on above, dark colours will absorb light, so it’s better to choose lighter shades that will have a reflective effect on your designer bathroom. Bright colours like refreshing shades of green and blue can make your bathroom appear brighter and more cheerful, and we’d always advise using waterproof paint in your bathroom, since moisture and water are pretty much a guaranteed feature in all bathroom.
