Easy ways to add pops of colour to your bathroom

As winter is finally coming to a close (about time too), it’s a great time to start thinking about getting a new bathroom for spring. So, we thought this week was a great time to give you a bit of inspiration on exactly what can make your bathroom look amazing. While the traditional go-to colour for bathrooms is white, lots of people are thinking, for example, about implementing Pantone’s Colour of the Year in their bathrooms – so what do you think?

What is Pantone’s Colour of the Year?

For almost the last two decades, Pantone has announced their Colour of the Year, its special colour which it feels has most summed up the zeitgeist of the past 12 months. It often gives designers a fantastic inspiration for colours, and in the past it’s become a leading colour in interior designs for designer bathrooms and kitchens and more, until the next one is announced. This year’s is Living Coral, described as an orange peach shade which is designed to reminiscent of actual coral. The qualities Pantone ascribe to it are warm, nurturing, optimistic and natural. All wonderful qualities for a contemporary or traditional bathroom!

Of course, peach is quite a bold colour to paint your entire bathroom in, and using such a bold colour is a gambit that can easily go wrong if you end up regretting it. But if you like the colour regardless, or you’re thinking of even more alternatives, we’ve got a few ideas on how to add some equally beautiful (and sometimes less permanent) pops of colour to your bathroom!

Our favourite ways to breathe colourful life into a bathroom

Soften things up with colourful towels or floor coverings

If you’re a regular reader of our blog, you may remember we discussed towels in last week’s post about refreshing the style of your bathroom. The points we made then are just as relevant here! Adding in a colourful towel or two is perhaps the easiest and safest way to experiment with colours in your bathroom, as they’re very inexpensive and easy to switch back out again if you change your mind, giving you a lot of freedom to find your perfect style. The same applies to floor coverings, and the added bonus is that they all serve functional purposes in your bathroom – drying yourself and protecting your floors, respectively – as well as stylistic ones.

Add an accent wall

This is a favourite one of many designers, and it’s the perfect way to give your bathroom a bold dash of colour without it being overwhelming. Now, there are a couple of ways to guarantee that it looks beautiful. One of these is to make sure you pick the right wall! One with a strong focal point works best, or the one directly across from the door, helping it to make maximum impact on anyone walking in. It’s the ideal choice if you’ve got a fairly bold colour in mind!

Opt for a bolder bathtub

This is a slightly more unconventional option, it’s true! Obviously it’s one you’ll have to think through as far as you can, because like the accent wall it’s not a temporary option – so whatever you choose, you’ll have to live with it for at least a little while! But the fact that it’s unusual is one of the many things that can make it so appealing, and it’s a great (if unorthodox) way to give your bathroom a bit of extra personality.

Create a more vibrant vanity

Vanities are typically in muted colours, so deciding to paint it in a bolder shade is a great way to make a real impact, and project your personality onto the bathroom. You’ll want to add a bit of colour to it or to the base.

Decorate with wall art or mirrors

If you have your eye on some wall art you’d like to hang up, your bathroom can provide the perfect home for it, adding some colour to your surroundings while helping you to cultivate the particular feel or atmosphere you want for the space. Mirrors, on the other hand, are great for adding colour with coloured or gilded frames, and the larger options have the extra bonus of adding a lot more visual space to the room.

Of course, these are just our suggestions… theoretically the list could be a lot longer, and you may well have your own ideas for adding colour to your bathroom! And don’t forget our expert designers are always here to help. Why not swing by our bathroom showroom on Manchester road to see what inspiration you can get for your own bathroom?
